City of Vallejo, CA, CA

The City of Vallejo is pursuing a Prohousing Designation from the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD). The program recognizes local governments that adopt policies and practices that support housing development, including affordable housing.

The application will highlight Vallejo’s efforts to expand housing opportunities, streamline development review, reduce barriers to housing production, and support affordable housing. Receiving the designation can strengthen the City’s competitiveness for certain State housing and infrastructure funding programs.

Project Status

On May 7, 2026, the Housing and Community Development Commission recommended pursuing the State’s Prohousing Designation, followed by City Council direction to prepare the application on July 14, 2026. The draft application is under internal review. Staff anticipates releasing it for the required 30-day public review by the end of November 2026 and submitting it to HCD in January 2027.
