Planning Division

Planning Division Office will be closed December 24 through January 1 and will reopen on January 2, 2025.

The Planning Division oversees and facilitates new development to ensure it aligns with the City’s General Plan, specific plans, Zoning Ordinance, Sign Ordinance, Subdivision Ordinance, the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), and other applicable State, Federal, and local regulations. Our mission is to promote sustainable and thoughtful growth while preserving the City's unique character.

The Planning Division also supports these important advisory and decision-making bodies:

  • Planning Commission: A seven-member commission appointed by the City Council to review and make decisions or recommendations on land use and development issues.
  • Design Review Board: A seven-member board dedicated to fostering orderly, harmonious, and visually appealing development in the city's downtown and waterfront areas.

(Closed between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.)
