Project Description: |
Strengthen neighborhood identity through a community-involved Neighborhood Placemaker public art project, painting of utility boxes in the downtown, a mobile tech tour with videos documenting sites in the downtown Art & Architecture Walk, and two murals on buildings downtown. |
Implementing Entities:
Vallejo Community Art Foundation (VCAF)
Update:
The project has several sub-projects:
Utility Box Painting - 10 of 11 utility boxes in the downtown area have been painting by local artists selected through an open process.
Art & Architecture Walk - 19 of 24 historically-significant architecture or artistic sites in downtown have been documented with online videos and enabled with RFI-chip/bar code signs allowing for mobile tours.
Murals - two downtown buildings (301 Georgia and 629 Marin Street) will have murals celebrating Vallejo's diversity. The mural at 301 Georgia was completed in December 2016; a second mural is scheduled to begin in Spring 2017 adjacent to Indian Alley.
Neighborhood Placemaker Public Art Project - A committee selected an artistic mosaic to be installed on the Capitol Street Stairs. Additional structural work is required, however, and fundraising is ongoing.
