Blu Homes, leader in ecological, innovative, preassembled homes, announced in December that they will be significantly expanding its operations on Mare Island to accommodate its rapid growth in sales. Blu Homes confirmed that the employees from the Waltham, Massachusetts and San Francisco sites will also be relocating to Vallejo, though those facilities will not be closing entirely.
"The Primary goal is to increase collaboration and enhance innovation by having all our business units - from manufacturing and engineering to product management, design and sales - under one roof," said Blu Homes spokesperson Dana Smith.
In addition to the relocated staff, Blu Homes held a ground breaking for its first Blu Design Center on January 27. The Blu Design Center will be located at 1205 Club Drive on Mare Island. "The Mare Island (sample home) will be a small compound of a full-size home and pods to include space for a design and sales team," Smith said.
Mayor Osby Davis is enthusiastic about Blu Homes expansion on Mare Island and the opportunities it represents. "Blu Homes commitment to centralizing their rapidly growing home building production in Vallejo shows business investment at its finest. The City of Vallejo is 100 percent committed to aggressive economic development and we eagerly invite more industries to follow in their steps."
The Blu Design Center on Mare Island will be a 2,300 square foot Breezehouse, clad in clear red cedar. The three-bedroom, two-bath home features a library, rear court, and entry court with a large deck perfect for outdoor entertaining. The Breezehouse includes luxury fixtures and finishes, including Walker Zanger tile, Caesarstone countertops, Kohler fixtures and KitchenAid stainless steel appliances, as well as high tech options including Nest smoke detectors, whole house audio systems, and Level 2 electric car chargers.
“Our design centers will offer our customers an ongoing way to experience a Blu home in a very hands-on manner, while receiving professional and helpful customer service,” noted Maura McCarthy, Blu Homes Co-Founder and Vice-President of Market Development.
The Mare Island Breezehouse will be open to the public for visits in March of this year.
